I’m David. A few years ago I decided I was going to make my own comics and after about three years I finally finished one. Thanks to a compulsive personality and a lack of time management skills, I spend most of my time making them.

So, what do I make? It’s mostly weird genre stuff. The sort of comics I’d love to read but few people make them. In fairness, the people who do make them are pretty amazing, so I’ve got a bit of a hill to climb there.

Oh, I’m Scottish, enjoy movies and long walks, GSOH, 5’8, and have a bad habit of acquiring technology I don’t need. Do you want to know any more than that?

Here’s a photo of some ginger beer and me.

Decades: Ten years ago, James Macleod caught a brutal serial killer. But the now-retired detective always believed he was guilty of far more violence. Now he has the chance to uncover the truth, but one truth leads to another, and the unintended consequences stack up until no involved will get out unscathed.

The idea for Decades had been in my head since I was 16. I’d read about the police taking Moors Murderer, Ian Brady out to show them where he’d buried one of the victims. Something about that kept coming back to me and about 15 years later I started reading and researching serial murderers while I figured out what the story was.

Decades was the first story I finished and I was probably a bit too ambitious (152 pages!). But it was the best I could do at the time, and it taught me a lot for my current project. I cringe at some of the art now, but there are some parts towards the end that are quite cool.

I originally shared Decades as a real-life book (you can still buy it on my Etsy store) and as a digital version.

Her! tells the a story of Paul, a paranoid hitman who’s forced to take an easy surveillance mission. When he sees the subject, a raven-haired femme fatale, he’s unable to keep his distance – or to stay out of trouble.

I love the late 50s/early 60s era of crime comics, with their stripped back stories of bad people getting into bad situations. At the same time, the #metoo movement was at its peak, and I wanted to look at some of the issues it highlighted.

I originally shared Her! in six 8-page parts on Instagram. Each page is one panel, so it’s a quick read. Hope you enjoy it.
